As part of our ongoing commitment to internal education and safety, this mission focused on enhancing our team’s understanding of the apex predators we frequently encounter during field research. Over three days, our team traveled to the remote waters off Freeport, Bahamas—an area famously known as Tiger Beach.
Despite its name, there’s no beach—only clear waters and high concentrations of Tiger Sharks. This expedition provided team members with a rare opportunity to encounter these animals up close in a controlled, yet natural environment.
Divers descended through schools of 6–8 foot lemon and nurse sharks before reaching 40–50 feet, where 12–15 foot Tiger Sharks patrolled the seafloor. What began as an intimidating experience soon transformed into one of awe and deeper understanding. By observing body language, movement patterns, and behavior, the team developed confidence and insight into shark behavior—essential knowledge for those working in remote environments.
This mission strengthened our team’s connection with the animals we help study and protect, and reinforced our belief that education begins with experience.
